ARSENAL’S title rivals have been desperately searching for a chink in their armour – a hope that the Gunners’ dominance will fade.
They only score from set-pieces: false. They have injuries: easing. They need own goals to win games: bonus. Their congested fixture list is causing unimaginable fatigue: coping.
Well, then their strikers are clearly not ruthless enough. Oh dear… even that faint hope is starting to look fragile.
On Tuesday night Arsenal set a new club record when they beat Inter Milan 3-1 at the San Siro to make it seven Champions League wins in a row.
Hungry-looking Gabriel Jesus was given the nod over Viktor Gyokeres, and repaid Mikel Arteta by capping an all-energy display with two goals.

Did Gyokeres sulk and throw his toys? No, he came off the bench and curled a beauty into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
“This is great,” purred Arteta as he reflected on his now firing frontline. “We’ve been missing Gabi a lot, and I think it’s going to raise his confidence level, and the team’s, because we have now different profiles in that position, like we have with the wingers.
“And the fact that those players are playing at that level. Viktor comes in and has a great impact as well in the game. It’s only making us better, and that’s what we’re seeking.
“If I had to write it, probably that would be it. I’m very happy with that, and I’m very happy as well with most of the individual performances.

“I think that we were incredible, you don’t win in San Siro in the manner that we’ve done.”
Quizzed on how much having fit-again forwards can help Arsenal’s cause as they chase silverware on four fronts, Arteta added: “A lot, because we played the fourth consecutive game away from home in four different competitions in 12 days, so it’s crazy.
“We’ve been able to do that because we have rotated; because players feel important, and players are fit to play when it’s needed.
“That is the only way to sustain the level, the demands and the objectives that we want.”
Arteta now faces a selection headache ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League visit to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Can Arsenal’s chasing rivals garner any hope by the potential unrest caused by those players who find themselves back on the bench?
They clearly shouldn’t bank on it, judging by how quickly Jesus was to share the limelight with strike partners Gyokeres and Kai Havertz.
“Everyone wants to start,” Jesus told Amazon Prime after his two-goal salvo against Inter.
“I am a respectful guy. I am not a kid anymore, I am 28, so I understand the situation. I understand how football works.
“I was so happy for Vik to score. To be a striker without a goal is always difficult, I have been fighting with this all of my career.
“I am so happy that I scored, and happy that Vik came on and scored, and I’m 100 per cent sure when Kai has the chance, he will score and help us as well.”
