Red Arrows in action [Konflikty.Pl Wikimedia Commons Detail]
• AIR Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston wants the Royal Air Force to be net zero by 2040 – a laudable aim.
Laughable, though, for weeks later he sanctioned the Red Arrows performing their annual “rolling heart” manoeuvre over Lincolnshire skies on St Valentine’s Day.
The two jets effectively put two fingers up to the environment and, anyway, most lovers probably missed the show.
This was money wasted when our debts are some £2.6trillion, growing by £5,000 a second, with aviation fuel costs up by 70 per cent in a year.
The RAF website lists 10 display teams, not including their police dog display team. It spends a lot of our money showing off. The defence secretary should shut down such RAF expenditure.
