FOOTBALL teams from across Camden and Islington are being invited to spend their Sundays showing off their silky skills in a five-a-side league with a twist.

Players aged 14 to 16 can sign up now for the Calthorpe Project Futsal League, which is preparing to kick off for a second season in March.

The competition has proved a big hit at the specially-designed outdoor pitch in Gray’s Inn Road, King’s Cross, over the past 10 weeks.

Using a smaller ball with less bounce, the emphasis of Futsal is on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Unbeatable Corams FC were crowned the premier passers on the pitch as top scorer Shomon Rahman, 18, and player-of-the-tournament Iggy Fiore, 17, drove them to glory.

Now league organiser Ryan Connor, 16, is urging teams to come and take Coram’s title.

“We want to make the league bigger, better and more competitive so any teams who think they have what it takes should sign up.

“The first season was brilliant. It was the first time I’ve ever organised a competitive league from start to finish and all the players really enjoyed themselves.”

Any teams ready to take up the challenge should call Ryan on 07957 766605 or, alternatively, email ryan_connor96@hotmail.com to book a place for the new season.

The kick-off is in March.
