‘Years of neglect have led to promising projects being placed on hold indefinitely’

• ROGER Winfield’s letter (Fix the overcrowded tube station, July 13), about the proposed upgrade to Camden Town tube station was very interesting as Transport for London (TfL) itself said there was “overwhelming support for its plans”, with dozens of unique and ambitious designs suggested.

Yet sadly, in the end it all comes down to one thing: money. Years of neglect of TfL and comical investment in projects like HS2 have led to not only this but many, many other promising projects being “placed on hold indefinitely”.

And whilst many complain about the seemingly stupid lack of step-free upgrades in TfL’s Kentish Town plans, it has a statutory duty above all to ensure safety by keeping lifts in working order.

If it was ever to even be able to consider step-free plans, it would need to involve some sort of funding from central government which, as we have seen all too many times before, it likely will not receive.
