THERE was an eerie calm when youngsters from a top football youth club proved silence really is golden – by completed a training session without saying a word.

Players from Soccerscool FC trained in absolute silence on Thursday to raise money for Child Refugee Crisis Appeal with Save the Children. The boys and coaches communicated without saying a word at Clissold Park in Stoke Newington as a mark of solidarity for those kids who are displaced and no longer have a voice.

Head coach Malcolm Hercus said: “The players made us really proud by managing to stay silent for a whole hour of football. In the past we have used sponsored silent football training to raise funds for our club to keep costs low and accessible to all.

“On this occasion we decided to make this an event about Save the Children and the refugee crisis.

“We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our members for their generosity which helped raise £330 for the appeal.”
