Spurs’ collapse ‘is fault of FA’

SPURS fans were left wondering what might have been last night (Wednesday) after watching their side romp to a convincing win away at Bolton.
Two goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and strikes from Rafael van der Vaart and Luka Modric sealed a 4-1 victory at the Reebok Stadium.
The result leaves Tottenham in fourth place, one point behind rivals Arsenal.
But amid the celebrations, supporters couldn’t help but wonder what might have happened had manager Harry Redknapp not been linked with the England job, a distraction many believe derailed their season.
And the news that the FA have chosen Roy Hodgson over Redknapp has led to Spurs fans accusing the governing body of ruining their season.
Dan Wynne, chairman of the Independent Spurs Supporters Trust, slammed the FA for letting the appointment of the England manager drag on – and in turn scupper Tottenham’s best chance of a title challenge since 1987.
“The fact the whole season fell to bits is the FA’s fault, the whole thing is the FA’s fault,” he said.
“They totally undermined Fabio Capello and then they completely destabilised us.
“If they had managed the John Terry situation properly this would not have happened.”
Mr Wynne added that even with the Hodgson announcement, Spurs had been adversely affected, with Redknapp putting a brave face on what must have been a disappointment – and West Brom facing turmoil before they play Arsenal.
But Mr Wynne said fans would be pleased the manager looks likely to stay on.
“There is some clarity at last and we can get stuck into the last games of the season,” he added. “We had no indication of what was going to happen.”
He said the fact Redknapp was now likely to stay at Spurs had no bearing on the future of the club’s brightest stars: “All the players are on long contracts, and it is the chairman who makes the decisions. There is no real reason any of our players would want to go or be allowed to go.”
