MORE than 200 of the borough’s brightest young sports stars were honoured at a glitzy awards ceremony at the Camden Centre in King’s Cross.

Rapturous applause and silverware greeted youngsters at Camden’s Celebration of Sporting and Physical Activity Achievement as they were acknowledged for all their efforts in the London Youth Games, the School Games and the Camden Active School Programme over the past year.

Mayor of Camden Larraine Revah, cabinet member for customers, communities and culture Cllr Abdul Hai and Paralympian Ben Quilter all presented awards as the contributions of parents, teachers, volunteers and sports clubs were also recognised on Wednesday last week.

Among the worthy winners were sisters Meah and Anya Shah, who won the Outstanding Girls Team Award after helping the Camden squash squad finish fourth, and pupils from St Aloysius school in Somers Town, who won the Most Inclusive School Award.

The celebrations were organised by Camden Council’s sport and physical activity service, which works closely with schools and clubs in the borough in order to equip youngsters with the skills and support they need to enjoy sport all year round.
