Henry Newman: ‘It always terrifies me’
A CONSERVATIVE councillor has raised the idea of a night-time speed limit around areas where drunk people spill onto the roads.
Henry Newman said he was “always terrified” when he saw the number of people on the streets in Camden Town and Tottenham Court Road, telling a council meeting last week that he was “concerned that there isn’t a different traffic arrangement for night-time”.
Large numbers of revellers are often on the streets around Camden Town tube station and up to the Lock late in the evening and when pubs and clubs close.
Mr Newman said: “You’ve just got loads of people and they are continually stepping out into the roads because they are not concentrating and drunk.”
He added: “I don’t know if the answer is a slower speed limit at night or something that takes this into account. It is something that always terrifies me.” Council officials said they would look at the issue as part of Camden’s transport strategy.
