ARSENE Wenger praised his team for “taking advantage of the good moments” last night (Wednesday) after Arsenal beat Marseille 2-1 in the Champions League to record their 10th successive away win.
A nervy opening first match in Group F was brought to life shortly after the hour mark when Theo Walcott took full advantage of some hapless defending to smash home a sublime volley.
Aaron Ramsey continued his fine form in front of goal in the 84th minute when he collected Kieran Gibbs’ ball and netted his sixth of the season.
Minutes later the Welsh midfielder was harshly adjudged to have fouled Andre Ayew in the area, allowing Jordan Ayew to pull a goal back for Marseille from the spot.
The stoppage-time strike wasn’t enough to take the gloss off of a record-breaking night for the Gunners, with Wenger describing the 10th away win on the spin as a “a vital result in the hardest group”.
“We should great patience and maturity and in the end it paid off,” said Wenger. “We have all these special players here and we know that if we are strong defensively then we always have a chance offensively.”
Match winner Ramsey added, “We’re in a really tough group so it was important to get all three points.”
