Spear fundraiser success
Thursday, 23rd May 2019
• ON May 16 I was invited to volunteer at the annual fundraiser for Camden Spear Trust, part of the Lighthouse London Community Trust, that helps unemployed 16 to 24-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) and who were not born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
They and come from deprived backgrounds with associated barriers to getting their foot in the door. Spear offer diverse training, skills and a listening ear to help them to take the right next steps to success.
With the brutal stabbing of Calvin Bungisa last month in Grafton Road, it was a pleasure to see so many people show up to lend their support to this organisation and over £85,000 was raised to help the project continue running for the next academic year.
Among the auctions were tickets to The Graham Norton Show; Everyman unlimited membership for a year; and a week’s holiday in Norfolk; and other top-notch prizes from companies and organisations from the surrounding community.
The evening was a success and if it stops just one person from being “taken too young” then it was well worth it…
