Solar panels planned for our church would not be visible from the churchyard

• YOUR report on the application to place solar panels on Hampstead Parish Church includes the opinion of David Milne of the Church Row and Perrins Walk Neighbourhood Forum that “this section of roof is visible from the gravestones… and will cause visual harm”, (Neighbours hit roof over ‘greener’ church, November 15).
Mr Milne would have done well to look at the plans in more detail. We have worked extremely hard to ensure that the panels will be below the lines of the parapet.
The churchyard slopes away from the church and for someone to see even the top of the panels they would have to be unnaturally tall and jump up and down on top of the highest standing gravestone.
Information about the application, including a diagram demonstrating that the panels would not be visible by visitors to the churchyard, is available in the entrance to the church.
We want Hampstead Parish Church to play its part in reducing the carbon footprint of this community.
It is a pity that Mr Milne’s objection rests on a demonstrable misunderstanding and I hope that the planners recognise this as they deliberate.
