Social housing helps social cohesion

Labour councillor Paul Tomlinson
• I FULLY concur with the proposals put forward by Cllr Paul Tomlinson regarding the creation of Community Land Trusts and their role in enabling the provision of homes for social rent in the Somers Town area, (Don’t miss opportunity for homes on prime land, August 13).
However I believe that he omitted to mention the important role that social housing fulfils in the creation of social cohesion, solidarity and a sense of “belonging” in an area.
Furthermore any proposals to build homes for social rent should also include other providers – that is reputable housing associations as well as Camden Council.
Bizarrely, however, Camden Council appear to be quite relaxed about creating a so-called “tech quarter” which will ultimately lead to the existence of a soulless quarter and a transient population in the area.
The only beneficiaries will be spiv property developers. Think again Camden Council, and give serious consideration to Cllr Tomlinson’s proposals before it is too late.
