So the councillor wants you to invest in bonds…

• ADAM Harrison claims that carbon emissions in Camden have fallen in the past three years, due to his initiative, (Climate bonds a new way of funding, Forum, January 13).

This reduction has nothing to do Camden but is the achievement of Transport for London, the introduction of the congestion charge, along with nearly two years of reduced traffic due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Cllr Harrison’s grand plan should be put alongside our efforts in Coram Street over a number of years to prevent Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, and other vehicles parking at 5am in the street, creating noise and carbon emissions from engines and refrigeration units, waking us up, and poisoning the air we breathe.

Cllr Harrison has been aware of this for nearly a decade and has consistently neglected to answer our letters, as have the other two councillors for Bloomsbury. So seeking to ask for investment for a scheme that will allow this pollution to continue is counter-productive.

Of course, dealing with the real issue of HGV emissions and the constant flouting of loading-bay regulations requires work and commitment, whereas Cllr Harrison’s grand plan – requesting that Camden residents invest in bonds to solve the environmental crisis – does not require any commitment on either his part or that of the council; simply your money. Draw your own conclusions.
