So TfL can’t find the money for a lift at the tube station… shame!

• AS a member of Camden Disability Action, I read with interest the open letter to Transport for London from four Camden councillors about delays in completing the refurbishment of Kentish Town tube, (Behind the scenes at Kentish Town tube station as TfL say it will be reopen by Christmas, July 25).
Not a mention of the refusal of TfL to install a lift. Kentish Town tube is now on a par with all the other tube stations in the borough, all without step-free access.
No mention that TfL is to spend £6million on renaming Overland stations, but cannot find any funding for a lift. In fact the word “disablement” did not appear in their letter.
This is surprising since Cllr Sylvia McNamara was, until fairly recently, visual impairment “champion” on the council’s disability oversight panel.
The recently-built offices housing CDA are near the tube and those members with mobility problems often use this station.
CDA demonstrated outside the station but got little support from the council. Did any disabled people accompany the councillors on their February site visit to get their views?
The four obviously do not think the needs of mobility-impaired people are important, nor indeed those with children in buggies or the elderly and infirm.
Instead, they prefer to grandstand in sending open letters which will have zero effect but make them, they hope, look good.
