So much for the democratic process!

Thursday, 26th April 2018

• IN a few days some of us will be able to exercise our democratic right to vote for the councillors of our choice.

Maybe we will spare a thought for those who have fewer democratic rights than us in other countries. But wait a moment; what about those people in this country who don’t have the right to vote? Surely not, I hear you say.

The fact is that there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people who don’t know anything about the electoral process. Imagine if you are a landlord in Camden running one or more houses in multiple occupation which have not been registered as such.

The house may receive a generic letter from the electoral registration officer but if that is not shown to the residents then none of them will get on the register of electors.

So how many people are not exercising the right to vote for a candidate in a local or general election? So much for the “democratic process.
