Sir Keir Starmer’s loyalists can’t let go of their grudges

Thursday, 22nd August 2024

• IT is embarrassing that Sir Keir Starmer loyalists can’t let go of their grudges even in pyrrhic wins, (About that propaganda, August 15).

However having the humility to self-reflect isn’t something they’re used to, far easier to try to make ad hominem insults against your opponent’s supporters, than try to understand why an independent candidate was able, practically within weeks and from a cold start, to gain about 20 per cent of the vote and have an incoming prime minister with his constituency vote going down.

As a direct report, I can attest that Andrew Feinstein’s campaign was rigorously prudent and strict in being cautious, within all rules, and with good behaviour from volunteers.

What the entitled still can’t understand is there being a deep hunger for better alternatives outside of the political monopoly, and that there were passionate members of the general public, not part of any campaign, that enthusiastically illustrated their disdain for such an unpopular local MP.

As for shared progressive values, no one will be taking lessons from the, now prime minister, who coordinated a false, bigoted attack on the Bangladeshi community or enabled Nigel Farage into parliament.

I ask genuine volunteers for the Labour Party to simply self-reflect rather than seeking distraction and avoiding their own accountability.
