Sir Keir Starmer

• AS you reported (Peeps, August 20), constituents have taken to pasting printed messages to the window of Sir Keir Starmer’s local office.

The first exhorted Sir Keir to “do something”, while the other urged him to consider the safety of children first before advocating school returns.

The posters are not just a visible and effective form of direct action they are also reflective of how many people in the constituency feel that their legitimate concerns are being ignored or sidelined.

One example of this was a letter sent to Sir Keir’s office regarding his deeply concerning statement on Black Lives Matter in July.

In a televised statement he appeared to downplay BLM’s importance and intent. The letter asked Sir Keir to reflect on his statements and affirm that he believed that Black Lives Matter.

Just under 80 constituents signed the letter sent to Sir Keir’s office. A truncated version appeared in your Letters pages, (Sir Keir must retract statements about Black Lives Matter).

Sir Keir’s office did not respond to the letter – not even to acknowledge receipt.

Many constituents, especially those on Labour’s “left”, feel this is reflective of a constituency party that is hostile to left-wing views.

Recently, I made a submission to the Forde Inquiry, established by Sir Keir in response to the leaked Labour report. In putting it together I interviewed many self-identified left-wing people in Holborn & St Pancras.

The stories they told of bullying and intimidation were shocking. One even said that their experience of local politics in the last five years was the worst they had known in over 40 years of activism.

Sir Keir’s silence on many issues, not least the confected refugee “crisis”, expounded by the likes of Nigel Farage, contrasts with his vocal attacks on BLM and union demands that children and teachers be safe before returning to school.

It contributes to a feeling that our MP has abandoned solid Labour principles and is failing to unite the party as he promised.

Sir Keir can expect many more messages on his windows.
