MANAGER Frank Beaney joked that his Regent’s Park Tenants’ Association side “couldn’t even win when they bypassed the cue ball” on Monday night following one of the strangest pots ever witnessed in the Chalk Farm Pool League.
Looking for vital points in their match against Islington’s The Florin, John Monk told his doubles partner Julie Horgon to pot the red ball in the middle pocket.
With the rules stating that there can be no talking once a player takes to the table, John then sat back waiting for his team-mate to sink the simple red.
Which she did!
Unfortunately for Regent’s Park she had chosen to ignore the white ball all together and potted the red ball directly into the pocket.
Despite seeing his side lose 7-2 and remain with just one win in 17 attempts Beaney was in good spirit. “Well, our tactical play of ignoring the cue ball all together didn’t work,” he said. “ Maybe next time we’ll just pick them up and chuck them in the pockets.”
