Sign up to oppose HS2

THE prime minister Rishi Sunak has just stated that the government is committed to High Speed 2.

But l wonder if, unknown to us, they themselves have already committed themselves and HS2 to some other body, and that’s why they are being compelled to carry on regardless.
It’s becoming clearer that there is little chance of HS2 ever being completed either on time or on budget!

And there is also talk of the government absurdly cutting back on the speed, number of lines and trains, to save on costs.

If it’s a high-speed train going slow, it defeats the whole objective, as what’s the point in having a high-speed train in the first place if it only goes slow? And we could then use normal trains and save billions, instead of spending £160billion on HS2.

With 92 per cent of people not wanting it, surely the death knell has finally rung for this obsolete monstrosity.

This is especially so with the revelations of HS2 posing dangerous threats, not only by still not having a safe and adequate plan for Euston station – after 10 years – but, terrifyingly, contaminating the chalk streams that supply drinking water. Equally frightening is the toxic sewage dumping into our rivers and the sea that HS2 are contributing to.

There is also the fact that the country is looking like a bomb site and people’s lives, homes, livelihoods and environments have been obliterated and smashed to smithereens by HS2. They will sue and want to be compensated for the illegal, physical, and mental abuse carried out by HS2 and its callous workers.

Add to this the damage to our environment, much of which will probably never recover.

The exposure of our children to toxic fumes from demolition dust and rubble, and poisonous cement and building materials, while living in their homes and attending their schools, is an issue that needs to be addressed.

And what has been even more appalling in Camden, is that none of our politicians (Greens, Extinction Rebellion and Roger Robinson excepted) has been there for the people to turn to, as the greedy leaders and officials have their sights set on HS2 as well.

Please sign the campaign letter by the Wildlife Trust to stop HS2 at https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/

Let’s get rid of it, so that we can finally begin to recover, in the interest of the people not profiteers.
