24 bus

• I AM backing Camden Labour’s campaign to save local bus routes at risk of being scrapped, (‘Absolutely shocking’: Transport for London announce plans to cut bus routes, June 1).

This includes the number 24, a much-loved service that begins at South End Green and the Royal Free Hospital, which could be lost for good.

Already more than 785 residents from Hampstead and beyond have signed Camden Labour’s petition to save the 24. That’s because this service is essential for getting about Camden, and a lifeline for many.

The 24 is at risk because of swingeing budget cuts inflicted on Transport for London. These cuts have been handed down by Boris Johnson’s Conservative government and are yet another reminder of just how out of touch this government is.

In a week when Tory MPs failed to get rid of their rudderless prime minister, their only plan for levelling up the country seems to be to level London down.

The overall impact of these cuts will be to slash capacity and risk discouraging people from using public transport. And the 24 is not the only bus at risk.

I urge residents also to comment on the proposed changes to the 4, 31, 88, 113, 214, 205, and 521. You can sign the Camden Labour petition here: https://t.co/jKzJOouvVt
