FANS of district football are just one game away from a dream final after both Camden and Islington reached the last four of the Kay Trophy.

Camden’s Year 6 squad will tackle Lewisham in their semi-final, and manager Abul Koyar, who runs the team with Shaun Taylor, is confident that his side can come out victors.

“We lost 3-2 to them recently in the group stages of the Lester Finch Trophy after we switched off and allowed them to score a 30-yard screamer in the final minutes of the match. This time we have to be alert from the first to the final whistle.

“If we do that – and continue to show the same bullish attitude we’ve had in our recent games – I have no doubt that we can make the final.”

Islington’s Under-11s side face just as tough a test in their final-four encounter against South London. “It’s going to be a real challenge because they boast the biggest pool of players to select from so have a really strong squad,” said manager Marc Stocking.

“But playing in such a big game will be a great experience for the boys – we’re all really looking forward to it.

“Anything can happen in a semi-final. The boys have been training really hard and if they can put that into practice on the day I’m sure that we can win.”

The dates for the semi-finals have yet to be decided, but are scheduled to take place this month.
