EVERYONE thinks their pet is picture perfect – and now you have the chance to have your best friend immortalised in paint and do good for charity, writes Dan Carrier.

Street artist Pixie has joined forces with The Hut By The Heath café to run a competition to choose five pets who deserve to have their likeness captured on a 12ft high new street mural.

Pet lovers, and it doesn’t have to be dogs, are invited to send a picture of their favourite furry, feathered, scaled or shelled friend and a £5 donation to MacMillan.

Then in mid-October, Pixie will draw five from a hat and create their likenesses on the Kwik Fit garage doors in Gordon House Road.

It will replace Pixie’s striking piece of art thanking Royal Free staff which was painted onto the shutters during the Covid pandemic.

The Hut By The Heath’s proprietor Dawn Doran has been raising funds for Macmillan since she saw first-hand the work they do when her partner, Mick fell ill.

She said: “People round here are real animal lovers, so we thought what better way to celebrate that and raise some money at the same time.”

Kwik Fit manager Darren Monteiro added he hoped to win one of the slots.

He said: “I have a labrador called Honey, who would look great up there. Pixie did a great job last time and we’re excited to see the new work take shape.”
