Should I have my food waste delivered?
Thursday, 4th May 2017
• ON April 3 I made an online application to Camden for a food waste caddy, followed by phone calls to Veolia on April 6 and 20. I am still waiting.
There have been numerous complaints about Camden’s new rubbish collection arrangements and if my experience is anything to go by, Camden and their contractor Veolia are either incompetent or, to be charitable, were inadequately prepared.
Having to store rotting, smelling, food waste at home is unpleasant and perhaps an interim solution would be to have my food waste delivered once weekly to the Town Hall or to Veolia pending the provision of a caddy.
Given that I live opposite the Heath and that foxes appear frequently, it would be somewhat anti-social with respect to my neighbours if I were to fly-tip my food waste nearby.
In desperation this week, and feeling that I had no other option, I used the council waste bin on the corner of my street, given that the Veolia operatives declined to take the bag in which I had put my food waste with an attached label in large print explaining my predicament.
