Should I be working for a coalition?
Thursday, 27th July 2023
• I AM a Labour Party member because I respect our excellent MP, Tulip Siddiq and also the Tories must go.
But the Uxbridge by-election was dismaying. Labour could have countered the Tory lies about the ultra low emission zone, ULEZ, for weeks beforehand, saying that ULEZ was introduced by Tories, expanded by Tories, will save lives and needs to be supported by all parties because health and reducing emissions are really important.
Instead there were weeks of Labour dithering like frightened rabbits as voters visibly fell for the Tory gaslighting, and now we have the unimpressive sight of Danny Beales flip-flopping after losing a seat they threw the kitchen sink at, suggesting that green, pollution-fighting ULEZ is bad.
And Sir Keir Starmer is critical not of this nonsense, but of mayor Sadiq Khan! For God’s sake, Labour deserves to lose the seat acting like that!
I wish I could tell Sir Keir that Labour is starting to offer me, a moderate, environmentally-aware, paid-up, member, an impression of muddled incompetence and insincerity that is making me wonder if I should be working for a coalition rather than an outright Labour victory.
