• I RECENTLY heard a conversation in the lift at Hampstead Heath station between two nurses on their way to work at the Royal Free Hospital.

“We are short of nurses, we are short of doctors but we are not short of managers.”

Politicians must recognise the increased pressures of work are a cause of concern because a decline in patient safety is now a probability.

All political parties must act to increase the numbers of front-line staff by providing increased pay and the intake of student nurses immediately.

Train and retain new staff, increase taxation, agreed across all political parties to fund it.

You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
