Shift away from online incentives is just great – I hate screens

• RECEIVING the reminder that the time had come to renew my resident’s parking permit I noticed Camden had now withdrawn the option of making this renewal online and receiving a £10 discount for so doing.
Before anyone enters these columns with a letter of protest about the change, may I say how sensible and fair I consider it to be, and how useful an economy it is.
I have long wondered why this and other small financial and other favours should be given to those who choose to conduct huge parts of their lives through screens.
Because I have found my perfectly good-humoured dislike of a technology which has been gradually and inexorably imposed on us without any chance to vote on it, and led to not-so-minor forms of derision, bullying and exclusion for sceptics like myself, I prefer to sign myself…
