THE fruits of a progressive youth system were on display in Sunday’s battling home victory against Everton, with Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Kane all playing crucial roles.
Now boss Mauricio Pochettino and the Tottenham board hope to make the club even more attractive to the world’s best youngsters by further improving their facilities. They’ve already spent more than £100million on their training ground and are working towards a new stadium, and now there are also plans for a luxury players’ lodge.
Plans show a 45-bedroom facility near the Enfield training ground for players to stay before home games and during treatment sessions. According to reports, Champions League teams visiting London would be able to rent the facility and it could also be used as an England base for internationals.
Meanwhile, Spurs take on Crystal Palace at the Lane on Saturday and Kyle Walker is finally fit enough to join the match-day squad. The England full-back has not played since March and had abdominal surgery over the summer. But he played for 67 minutes in the reserves earlier this week and came through unscathed.
With Pochettino chopping and changing his full-back selections – Kyle Naughton and Eric Dier have both played there – Walker’s return will be welcomed.
American defender Deandre Yedlin will also add extra depth when he joins the club in January.
