MAURICIO Pochettino’'s young Spurs side face their biggest test of the season so far when they take on league leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane in Saturday’s lunch time kick-off.
The Argentine head coach spent much of the summer trimming his squad and bringing in young talent from the youth team. Now he says there’s a real buzz about the training ground, especially with a new stadium on the horizon.
“It’s true that Tottenham need to be ambitious, to win a trophy in the next few years and to stay at the top of the Premier League,” he said. “We have massive, massive potential to become bigger than we are now.”
That buzz is showing on the pitch, with a defensively-strong Spurs conceding a miserly four goals this term, largely thanks to captain goalkeeper Hugo Lloris – and Eric Dier, who despite being bought as a defender, has been playing in the heart of midfield, and he admitted he’s enjoying being in the thick of the action.
He said: “It’s good playing in midfield. Last year was my first in the Premier League and I played at right-back and centre-back. I think I’ve done well playing midfield.”
New boy Heung-Min Son has seemingly already won over the Spurs faithful after marking his first league start on Sunday by scoring the winning goal against Crystal Palace. It was the striker’s third goal in two games after he banged in a brace against FK Qarabag in the Europa League.
