MAURICIO Pochettino is set to take a leading role in this summer’s recruitment drive in a major transfer shake-up at Tottenham.
Previously, a mixture of chairman Daniel Levy, director of football Franco Baldini, and then the head coach would run their eyes over possible deals.
But following the fiasco of splurging Gareth Bale’s world-record transfer fee on seven players who have collectively failed to set the Premier League alight, Levy is placing his trust in Pochettino’s eye for talent.
Chief scout Paul Mitchell and Pochettino will now take full responsibility to source players. Levy will only get involved in the negotiation of fees and players contracts.
Spurs travel to Stoke City on Saturday with little to play for, except to see if young marksman Harry Kane can get back to goalscoring ways and over take Sergio Aguero as the Premier League’s top scorer.
After Sunday’s 1-0 defeat against Manchester City, Aguero is two goals ahead of Kane with just three games remaining.
Meanwhile, left back Danny Rose, who put in a man-of-the-match performance against the Sky Blues at the weekend, is rumoured to be the subject of a £12million close season bid from City.
But having secured his place as the number one full back in Pochettino’s team, it would take a larger fee to prise Rose away from White Hart Lane.
