SPURS travel to Old Trafford on Sunday having won two games on the spin since their defeat at Wembley in the Capital One Cup final – and with a record at Manchester United’s ground that reads two victories there in the last two seasons.
Mauricio Pochettino, who revealed on Sunday that his brother and his children have been following the side from the terraces, has a full-strength squad available.
For Harry Kane it has been a week of trying to keep focused on the task ahead as Spurs try to take fourth spot – starting with Sunday’s six-pointer. He has been bombarded with plaudits for his goal-heavy season, and is tipped to make England’s senior squad for the coming games against Lithuania and Italy.
With the England boss watching him score twice against QPR to take his season tally to 26, his team-mate Jan Vertonghen urged Kane to take a good rest in the summer and not represent England in the U-21s tournament.
Vertonghen said: “It’s difficult for me to judge. Of course England want him. He is a brilliant striker and he can be the main man, but I think he needs his rest for next season.”
His team-mate Ryan Mason has also won praise and put in an impressive central midfield performance with Hodgson watching on. After the game, Mason said he hoped to develop into a “box-to-box” player. “It’s an area of my game that I want to improve on,” he said.
