SPURS fans are breathing a sigh of relief after it emerged the potentially season-ending injury to their talismanic goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is not as serious as first feared.
The captain was stretchered off after colliding with full back Kyle Walker in the opening minute of the side’s 4-3 home victory against Leicester on Saturday.
After the match, head coach Mauricio Pochettino told reporters that the French international was in hospital and had suffered what he called “a large cut to a tendon in his knee.”
The goalkeeper withdrew from international duty and could still miss the away tie against Burnley at Turf Moor on April 5 – but club sources say the scar should have healed in time for the visit of Aston Villa on April 11 and there is no long-term damage.
Meanwhile five Tottenham players have met up with the England squad for the Euro qualifier against Lithuania and the friendly against Italy. Midfielder Ryan Mason joins Andros Townsend, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Harry Kane. Mason, who only broke into the Spurs first team in September, has replaced Liverpool’s Adam Lallana, who has pulled out through injury.
“It came as a surprise. I was sitting in the gaffer’s office with the coaching staff when the news came in,” Mason told Spurs’ website. “The fact we’ve five players there is great. I can’t wait to get out on the training pitch.”
