JAN Vertonghen has said he’s planning to stay at Tottenham after revealing the club have offered him a new five-year contract.
The Belgian defender has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane all summer, with Barcelona reported to be the front-runners to capture his signature.
But Vertonghen has indicated he is ready to follow in the footsteps of team-mate Hugo Lloris by committing his future to the club.
“It goes without saying that I would like to stay at Tottenham Hotspur,” he told Belgian station Radio 1.
“I had a contract for four years. They offered me a new deal for five years, which I see as a great sign of confidence.”
Meanwhile Morgan Schneiderlin has reacted angrily on social media after being told he will not be allowed to leave Southampton.
Saints’ chairman Ralph Krueger insists neither Schneiderlin nor Jay Rodriguez will be sold this summer, both of whom are being linked with a move to Spurs.
Schneiderlin took to Twitter to say, “6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour!!!”.
