TOTTENHAM’S Danish forward Christian Eriksen has spoken of his wish to hit a late winner for his team in Sunday’s Capital One Cup final.

Spurs take on Chelsea in the seasons first silverware showpiece at Wembley, and Eriksen has revealed he wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Allen Nielsen, who hit a winner for Tottenham in the 1999 League Cup final against Leicester City.

He said: “It would be great to score a last-minute goal, perhaps like Allan Nielsen. It will mean a lot to walk out at Wembley. It’s a final, so it wouldn’t really matter where it is, Wembley or White Hart Lane. It’s a final and therefore it’s really special. Wembley is seen as a special stadium around the world, especially in Denmark. It has such a big history for every country. It will be a special place to play.”

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has various selection decisions to make following Tottenham’s away tie in the Europa League against Fiorentina. Danny Rose is expected to win a spot ahead of Ben Davies at left back, while Federico Fazio could start ahead of Eric Dier alongside Jan Vertonghen.

As Eriksen (above) is due to start, the Argentine boss’s biggest conundrum is rolling the dice to decide who will play in the attacking roles alongside him. Harry Kane’s a shoe-in with Mousa Dembele likely to play in the hole behind the front man.

Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela and Andros Townsend will all be looking to win the last remaining place in the forward berths.

The game kicks off at 4pm and is live on ITV.

Eriksen was speaking at a Tottenham Hotspur Foundation event highlighting the Education and Football Development Centre programme, which provides Academy-standard coaching alongside BTEC and FA level qualifications to create life changing opportunities to young people aged 16-18 not in education, employment or training.
