SPURS players Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend have been called up as late replacements into Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the forthcoming games against Estonia and Lithuania.
The pair were drafted into the squad after Hodgson saw defender John Stones step down with a thigh injury, while forward Wayne Rooney is also struggling for fitness.
Spurs were held to a 2-2 draw away at Swansea at the weekend – and the performance of striker Harry Kane has led to calls for him to be rested.
The striker got into a tangle defending a corner with the score balanced at one-all and sliced a clearance into his own net. Kane travelled to the European Under-21s Championships at the end of last season and then returned for pre-season training without taking a proper rest.
The draw saw creator Christian Eriksen score from two blistering free kicks – and fellow midfielder Eric Dier said after the match that the Dane’s dead ball ability was a crucial component in the team’s armoury.
He said: “Every time he stands over the ball you believe he might have a chance.
“He works on it every day and it’s a fantastic weapon for us.”
Meanwhile, forward Heung-Min Son has returned to light training after suffering a foot injury during the 4-1 victory over Manchester City.
The South Korean is, however, still a doubt for the home fixture against Liverpool on October 17.
