ANDRE Villas-Boas admitted at a press conference on Wednesday that the finishing touches were being put on Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid.
The Spurs manager told reporters that the clubs were in the “final stages” of negotiating Bale’s contract, adding: “It is a dream move for him.”
It’s not all bad news for the club, however, with AVB revealing that “Tottenham will accept most likely the biggest transfer in world football” as a deal reported to be worth around £86million finally looks to be drawing to an end.
Spurs look set to drag their transfer business right up to the deadline day on Monday as haggling continues over how Madrid will pay for the player.
Among the names being rumoured to be heading to White Hart Lane are Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, Chelsea’s Juan Mata, Roma’s Erik Lamela and Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches.
But with youngsters Harry Kane, Tom Carroll and Andros Townsend all impressing, Villas-Boas has said mega-bucks signings may not even be necessary as he builds a squad capable of competing for the title.
It’s so far so good for Tottenham after they made it two wins out of two in the Premier League on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Swansea courtesy of a Roberto Soldado penalty.
The scoreline suggests it was tighter than it felt but, it truth, Spurs were always in control and created a host of good chances.
