THE injury inflicted on Tottenham’s new central midfielder Etienne Capoue is an ankle sprain and not a break as was first feared.
He was carried off during the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday and taken to hospital.
After the match Andre Villas-Boas expressed his fear that his new charge could be out for some time – but it appears he will be back in action by the end of September.
Meanwhile, new boy Christian Eriksen, tipped to play in the No 10 role behind Roberto Soldado, has spoken of his happiness that Spurs came in for him before the transfer window slammed shut.
He revealed that his former Ajax team-mate Jan Vertonghen had helped him choose Tottenham, and that he also spoke to the clubs only other Danish player, former Spur Allan Nielsen.
“Everyone has followed the development of Spurs, it only goes upward and that’s what I want to be part of – one of the biggest clubs in England,” Eriksen said.
“I spoke to Jan and he said only good things. I spoke with him a few times and he’s a really good guy. From what I’ve heard he’s also one of the funny guys here.”
AVB praised the young Dane, saying his experience, turning out in the Champions League for three seasons, would be invaluable.
“Eriksen is a wonderfully creative player, who is accustomed to playing at a high level in Europe,” said the Spurs boss.
“He showed at Ajax all of his qualities and ability, particularly in terms of flair and creativity with the number of chances and assists he provided to his team-mates.
“He has great ability to pick a pass and is an excellent link-up player.”
