MORE than 200 talented young footballers showed their support for a brand new seven-a-side tournament that kicked off at the artificial pitches at Market Road in Islington.

Overall 24 teams from across London went in search of glory in the inaugural Queen’s Crescent Community Association’s (QCCA) Soccer 7’s Tournament last Tuesday.

Organised by QCCA voluntary intern Darren Joseph, the competition was funded by London Youth and placed special emphasis on having fun on the football pitch and simply taking part.

Among the debut winners were AFC Islington and Camden, who won the Under-12s Cup, and Isledon Wolves (pictured below), who won the Under-12s Trophy.

Meanwhile  AFC Wembley and SL Benfica won the Under-14s cup and trophy respectively.

Sports Development co-ordinator Jonathan Montgomery said: “We want to thank Darren and all the teams for making it such a successful tournament.

“It really was great fun.”
