POLICE believe the Somers Town funeral shooters are “local to Camden”, residents were told on Tuesday.
Six were injured when shots were fired from a car at a crowd attending a memorial service at St Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Phoenix Road on January 14.
A seven-year-old was in a life-threatening condition following the tragic incident but the Met said she has now been discharged from hospital. A 12-year-old and four women were also taken to hospital with injuries from the shooting.
Superintendent Jack Rowlands told a Camden Safer Neighbourhood Board meeting on Tuesday night: “I am pleased to say that the seven-year-old girl has now been discharged from hospital, whereas the 48-year-old lady is still in hospital receiving quite a lot of treatment for the injuries that she has sustained.”
He shared more details about the investigation to find the perpetrators, who are suspected to be from Camden.
“We believe there was an intended target there, but at this very moment in time, in terms of perpetrators, we believe it’s a local issue. Actually, the perpetrators we want to target are local to Camden as well. So, for us, our investigation has got a very local mindset,” he said.

At a virtual meeting last Thursday, Supt Rowlands had “categorically reassured” the public that the shooting had no connection to Colombian cartels nor the shooting in Clarence Gardens, Regent’s Park, in 2021 where a 73-year-old grandmother was caught in the crossfire during a drive-by attack.
“I’m very aware of the shooting that happened in Clarence Gardens in 2021 and I know people may fear that they are linked, but they are not. They are separate, isolated incidents,” he said. “I want to categorically reassure everyone that there is no connection to Colombian cartel gangs whatsoever.”
A 22-year-old man who was arrested after a car was stopped in Barnet has been bailed and no further arrests have been made.
Police are still searching for a black Toyota C-HR, but they insisted on Tuesday that the investigation was “progressing” and encouraged the public to share any information they may have.
A march against violence will take place on Sunday, January from 1.30pm. It has been organised by Camden United FC. The location and route are yet to be confirmed.
