Settlements policy is deplorable
Thursday, 9th February 2017
• AS a Jewish woman, but one who deplores and opposes Israel’s settlements policy, I was interested to read the February 2 letters concerning Terence Flanagan.
It seems that his alleged “crime” of anti-Semitism was, in fact, anti-Israeli, speaking out against Israel’s alleged policy of “bringing down” pro-Palestinian MPs, which seems like a denial of free speech. I feel strongly that a distinction should be made between anti-Semitism, which should be utterly opposed, and opposition to Israel’s polices. I feel the way Israel’s “settlements” policy affects the Palestinians (which presumably is what the pro-Palestinian MPs object to) could be compared to the Nazis’ original method of anti-Semitic attacks (before the death camps, which any decent person should obviously utterly condemn): confining Jews to ghettos.
