• There’s a most unfortunate clash of wonderful baroque concerts on Sunday evening (July 22), both starting at 6.30pm.
At St Stephen’s, Rosslyn Hill, fabulous flautist Ashley Solomon, a key player with the crack Florilegium ensemble, is playing with the Linden Baroque Orchestra. The programme includes Bach cantatas and Telemann fantasies and suites – and super soloists are singing in the concert to boot.
At the same time at St Saviour’s, Chalk Farm, François Couperin’s famed Trois Lecons de tenebres – Lamentations of Jeremiah – is being performed. Singing are stupendous sopranos Dame Emma Kirkby and Emily Atkinson accompanied by Reiko Ichise on viola da gamba and Timothy Roberts on the organ.

• Award-winning Japanese pianist Masayuki Tayama – a Rachmaninov specialist – is playing an absolutely terrific programme at a Markson Pianos concert at St Mary Magdalene, Munster Square, next Wednesday evening (July 25). Being played are a selection from Rachmaninov’s Transcriptions plus pieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Gershwin.
