THE summer transfer mill continues to gather speed but the news surrounding Arsenal is more to do with familiar faces than new ones.

This week Bacary Sagna has played down gossip about him leaving the club by revealing that he remains in talks over a new contract.

The French full-back (pictured) has been strongly linked with a return to his homeland, with ambitious Ligue 1 sides Paris St Germain and Monaco reportedly ready to end his six-year stay in England.

Sagna, who is entering the last 12 months of his current contract, believes Arsenal have what it takes to win the title and is focused on playing his part when the new season kicks off.

“We are still talking about a new contract,” he said.

“I never said I wanted to leave the club but there are some journalists who want to speculate as I have just one year to go.

“The fact is that I am still at Arsenal and I am looking forward to playing next season.

“Arsenal made me grow as a player and as a man. People have been talking about me going back to France, but at the moment I am at Arsenal.”
He added: “I truly believe we can be successful. I truly believe we can be champions or else I wouldn’t be playing football. I would have gone already.”

Meanwhile Nicklas Bendtner’s days at Arsenal are nearing an end with the striker being linked with a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Dane, who spent last season on loan at Italian champions Juventus, could leave the Emirates for as little as £3million having fallen out of favour with manager Arsene Wenger.

Director Heribert Buchhagen has been reported as saying that Frankfurt are “in serious negotiations with Bendtner”.
