TALENTED young fencer Jonathon Webb scooped a silver medal at the Eurosabre Cadet Tournament on Saturday in France.

The men’s event is a very popular competition in the European Cadet Circuit, attracting 128 fencers from 12 countries.

Webb, who trains at Camden Fencing Club, won all of his pool matches to be seeded second going into direct elimination.

He beat Italian and French opposition on his way to the final, where he lost to Nael Canali. Webb is only the third British sabre fencer to win a medal on the European Cadet Circuit, joining Camden Fencing Club’s Soji Aiyenuro, who won bronze in 2010, and Aliya Itzkowitz, who won silver in 2011.

Rubin Amsalem won all his poole matches to be seeded seventh in the last 32, where he was beaten to finish in 19th place overall.

William Moore also did well to take 23rd place.
