Rubbish on the streets a failure

Thursday, 1st July 2021

• IT is time for Camden Council to listen to residents and review its “bags on the streets” policy here in Fortune Green – the current policy of businesses and residents in flats above shops putting their rubbish and recycling on the street for collection just isn’t working.

Parents are walking their children to school through piles of rubbish, families are sitting at pavement cafés surrounded by bin bags, and foxes and rodents are scattering smelly food waste across the street overnight.

So far the Labour council have defended their waste contract, saying it is “performing well”. Last month some local residents asked councillors and council officers to come on a “walkabout” here to see the problem for themselves. Not one Labour councillor turned up.

I’m calling on the Labour council to listen to residents of Fortune Green, and to review this policy.
