Rough sleepers deserve better

A shocking image from recent storms as people continued to sleep in tents

• IT’S tragically necessary that your newspaper has been highlighting the rapidly descending situation for people who are subject to homelessness and rough sleeping in our borough.

I appreciate that a story has to be told from every angle but I’m seeing this carnage upfront and personal on a regular basis through my volunteering at Streets Kitchen outreaches. Things need to be improved massively and imminently.

My view and experience of what is happening on our streets differs enormously from the narrative being spun by “the powers that be” . An endless litany of “what ifs” by those who hold the power to change things should perhaps be replaced by “what could be”.

Other boroughs are way ahead of Camden in addressing this issue. Why is that the case?

I’m not alone in being absolutely exasperated with endless platitudes and excuses from Camden and their agencies charged with this task. They must step up properly to the job and we will gladly and constructively work with them.

We at Streets Kitchen are volunteers who give our time, our passion and our concern free of charge because we care about other people. Please match us up with this Camden Council!
