A SHOP that specialises in finding new homes for music-related objects has made a tranche of donations to Camden-based charities.
Rock ’n’ Roll Rescue, based in Parkway, Camden Town, takes in secondhand items that range from tour T-shirts and instruments to records and other music memorabilia. Money raised from selling stock is then given to good causes.
This week, they handed £5,000 over to charity Food For All, who offer free meals to thousands of people across the borough each week through their outreach services. Over the years, shop founder Ian Knox has sold everything from a drum kit played by Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts to a rare, 15,000-strong seven-inch record collection donated by the legendary DJ Wheelie Bag.
Mr Knox – the bassist in legendary post-punk band The Vibrators – said: “We have raised £64,000 for charity over the last year. We rely on donations and support from musicians and people in the industry. We get a lot of famous singers and musicians come in with things. You never quite know what will turn up next.”
