• WHAT a week so far.

We are getting a prime minister who seems to be the reverse of Robin Hood; giving to the rich.

Although I am not claiming to be poor, I got a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions this week that told me, as I was fast approaching 80, I would be getting an additional 25 pence a week.

Fortunately, unlike some in Camden trying to cash other government “hand-outs”, I’ll not have to produce photo ID before the council will allow me to get it.

The £13 per year will, if my calculation is correct, pay for just 32 hours of energy per year from next month. But what of the many in Camden already in fuel poverty?

Community centres, other similar organisations, and food banks are looking at the cost of providing warm rooms for vulnerable people over the winter. There is no cap on their energy bills.

Will the council continue to demand high rents and business rates from them for the privilege of feeding and warming the vulnerable?

Does the council have a plan for helping these organisations with their rising energy bills?

Will other “hand-outs” from the government administered to the “poor” via our council be subject to the same photo ID requirements?

Is anybody in our council listening? Let’s hear from them, then, or are they planning to join “Robin T” in the forest?
