• THE late great Patrick Quinn allowed me to address him as captain of the ship as he walked his very long bar (End of an era as Quinn’s pub legend Pat dies at 94, January 26).

His wisdom told me more about the world and nature than I learnt from practising law for 30 years. A true man of integrity and quiet dignity.
