Right kind of heating?
Thursday, 8th July 2021
• LEASEHOLDERS on Camden Council’s Weedington Estate have just received a “Notice of Proposed Works”to replace communal heating and hot water services. The cost for this work is estimated at close to £7million.
The estimated cost to leaseholders ranges from approximately £9,000 for a very small one-bed flat to over £18,000 for a four-bed and more for bigger flats.
This will be communal gas heating and hot water. A couple of points:
– Is Camden committed to reducing its use of fossil fuels?
– Is there a cleaner, cheaper, more environmentally friendly, way they could do this?
Individual flats could install heating for a few thousand pounds.
Leaseholders may be people who have lost their loved ones, their jobs, who work for the National Health Service, there will be pensioners, key workers and underpaid charity workers, many of whom work in Camden’s community, making a great contribution to the borough.
There will people with long Covid, young families, single parents and many others who already struggle to make ends meet. Have you fought hard enough for these people to ensure you are providing them with the best value?
And have you considered how they may be affected by a letter, falling on their doormat, telling them they will have to pay £18,000?
This on top of the already very high service charges they pay to Camden. This is too much for most people.
