A FEELING of déjà vu is creeping over the Emirates with the news that a familiar face is being tipped to make another return to Arsenal.
Manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he could re-sign striker Thierry Henry on loan in January.
The Gunners’ record goalscorer, who now plays for MLS side New York Red Bulls, made a hugely-successful return last winter, scoring against Leeds in the FA Cup before netting a last-minute winner at Sunderland.
Wenger was delighted with Henry’s impact and believes he could be a valuable asset again if he were to come back to the club for a third spell.
“He has been practising with us,” he said. “Will I sign him again in January? I don’t know.
“I don’t rule it out. He is sharp. Last year I did it because we lost Gervinho. It was a good connection. This year we lose Gervinho again as they are playing in the Africa Cup of Nations two years in a row, so we will be confronted with a shortage again.”
Wenger hailed Henry’s influence both on and off the pitch, and admits there are major benefits to bringing him back into the fold.
“You know what he gives you. He gives you hope, especially when he comes on. That is the most important thing,” he said.
“He is a communicator. An extrovert. Very intelligent. He can only give good advice to players because he was in their position when he arrived here.”
