Removal of traffic islands will endanger people

Friday, 3rd May 2019

• IS Nick Harding the only local resident who cares enough about pedestrians to campaign for their welfare? (Questions remain over planned road ‘improvements’, April 25).

Camden apparently want to remove pedestrian islands on Prince of Wales Road to make way for a proposed cycle scheme.

Such an idiotic idea, if carried out, is likely to cause health and safety issues for the numerous people who need to cross that extremely busy road.

The very young, the elderly, and those in between who aren’t too quick on their feet are likely to find the dangerous crossing of that road a nightmare.

The islands are crucial for users of the Talacre Town Green, the Talacre Sports Centre, Kentish Town West station, doctors’ surgeries, CostCutter and other shops.

The danger is not only about being hit by motorbikes, cars and trucks but push bikes too, whose riders who often don’t seem to regard the safety of pedestrians as a necessity.

I urge all concerned to write to oppose this proposal to remove traffic islands.
